Our Institute offers Long term fellowship in Cornea and Anterior Segment. Duration of the fellowship will be one and a half years. The objective of this program is to train ophthalmologists in the diagnosis and management of corneal diseases and cataract through
- Clinical evaluation
- Use of different investigative procedures
- Medical treatment
- Surgical intervention
- Research
COURSE DESIGN
BASIC ORIENTATION
The first month will be to strengthen the skills in clinical examination and basic diagnostics and also to get acquainted with the principles and guidelines being followed at the institute.
CLINICAL ACUMEN
During this period the fellows would be trained extensively in pterygium surgery, cataract surgery, Amniotic membrane transplantation etc. During this tenure the fellow would be trained in sics surgery for the initial 6 months followed by which they would be trained in phacoemulsification depending upon the fellow’s surgical training competency.
CLINICAL DIAGNOSTICS
Slit Lamp, Keratometry, Biomicrocsopy, Pachymetry , A- B Scan, Tear Film function tests.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
As a part of fellowship fellows are also taught about the management of following.
- Corneal infections
- Corneal immunological disorders
- Dry eye and ocular surface disorders
- Degenerations and dystrophies
- Complications of keratoplasty
- Complications of cataract surgery
MICROSURGICAL TECHNIQUES
- Keratoplasty
- Small Incision Cataract Surgery
- Phacoemulsification
- Surgery for congenital cataract
- Ocular surface reconstruction (limbal grafts, amniotic membrane grafts)
- Pterygium surgery
- Tissue adhesive application
- Patch grafts
- Superficial Keratectomy
- Trauma surgery
TRAINING IN THE USE OF LASER EQUIPMENT
- Nd: YAG capsulotomy
- Nd: YAG membranotomy
TRAINING IN CONTACT LENS
- Contact lens fitting
- Management of contact lens related complications
CLINICAL ASSOCIATES
During this period (6 months) fellows will take up institute’s responsibilities while being posted with the faculty. This is the time they will also learn managing various areas independently. Stipends
A stipend of Rs. 30,000/- (Thirty Thousand only) per month will be paid to the fellow in the first year and 35,000/- (Thirty-Five Thousand only) in the last 6 months
Semi-furnished accommodation will be provided to the fellow.The electricity bill for the quarter will have to be paid by the fellow.
